Built for Australian regulation

See it in Action

International labelling tools weren’t designed for Australian and New Zealand regulation. They adapt systems built for other markets, and without the local regulatory context, those adaptations don’t quite hold. Foodworks Nutrition Labelling was built from the ground up around the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code, and nothing else. For a compliance team, that’s the difference between trusting the output and checking it twice.

Nutrition Information Panels (NIPs)

Generated dynamically from your recipe formulations. Per serving and per 100g. Updated automatically when ingredients change.

Health Star Ratings (HSR)

Calculated and displayed with the official graphical format.  Watch the rating update in real time as you adjust your recipe.

Plain English Allergen Labelling (PEAL)

Compliant allergen statements using the  required terminology and formatting. Includes all newly regulated allergens: each individual tree nut, mollusc and crustacea.

Country of Origin Labelling (CoOL)

Percentage of Australian content calculated for sub-recipes and final products. Text statements and graphical standard marks generated automatically.

Ingredient Statements

Characterising ingredients and compound ingredient declarations, structured to Food Standards Code requirements.

Nutrient Analysis Statements

Full nutritional breakdown of every recipe and product formulation. The data behind the label.

Develop recipes.
Watch the label update.

Foodworks Nutrition Labelling is also a recipe development tool. Build and adjust your formulations and see the nutritional analysis, Health Star Rating, and label outputs update as you go. No waiting. No re-running reports.

Open any recipe to see every ingredient, including sub-recipes and their components. See where any single ingredient is used across your product range. When you change a supplier or reformulate a component, the changes flow through to every recipe that uses it.

Recipe development

Built for teams, not just individuals

Enterprise and collaboration

Cloud-based. Your compliance team, product developers, and QA managers work from the same data, from anywhere. No local installations. No version conflicts. No emailing spreadsheets.

    Shared workspaces

Centralised recipe and label data accessible to everyone who needs it. Add and remove users as your team changes.

    Attachments

Add PDFs, Excel files, images, and other documents to your resources. Specifications, lab test results. Everything lives in one place.

    Activity logs

Collaborate as a team. See who changed what, and when.

    Security

Penetration tested by independent third parties. Two-factor authentication available. Data residency in Australia.

Built around your supply chain, not a generic database

Compliant food labels start with accurate raw material data, allergen declarations, contamination risks, and ingredient names that match what’s on the label. That’s why Foodworks Nutrition Labelling is designed around your supplier specification sheets, not generic food composition tables.

Create Raw Materials from your suppliers’ spec sheets. Declare allergens accurately. Flag potential contamination. Name ingredients exactly as they should appear on the label. Every recipe you build pulls from data you control and can defend when audited.

When your products are audited, the numbers need to hold up. Foodworks gives you a workflow that ensures they will.

Your data, your labels

Reference data when you need a starting point

Australian food composition data (AusFoods, AusBrands, AFCD, FOODfiles) is available as reference data. Use it to base your nutrient analysis on a verified source when creating raw materials without entering values manually from a spec sheet. For teams using Nutrition Labelling primarily for recipe development and internal analysis (rather than retail-ready labels), reference data tables can be enabled for direct use in recipes via Workspace Settings.

    • What’s the difference between Nutrition Labelling and Professional?

Nutrition Labelling is for the food industry: generating compliant food labels from recipe formulations. Professional is for nutrition practitioners: dietary intake analysis, client tracking, meal plans, and clinical reports. If you need both, Foodworks Duo combines them in one subscription.

    • Is Foodworks Nutrition Labelling used in universities?

Yes. Universities teaching food science, food technology, and related programs use Foodworks Nutrition Labelling as part of their curriculum. Institutional licensing is available for universities and secondary schools.

    • Is Foodworks secure enough for enterprise procurement?

Foodworks has been through enterprise security evaluations, including reviews covering data residency, disaster recovery, and compliance. The platform is penetration tested by independent third parties, offers two-factor authentication, and stores data in Australia. Security documentation for procurement teams is available on request.

    • What happens when food labelling regulations change?

Foodworks is updated to reflect changes to the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code. Regulatory updates are included in your subscription. You don’t need to manually reconfigure anything when requirements change.

    • How does the Health Star Rating calculator work?

Foodworks calculates Health Star Ratings from your recipe formulations using the official HSR algorithm and displays the result in the official graphical format. When you adjust your recipe, the rating updates in real time, so you can see the impact of reformulation decisions as you make them.

    • Can Foodworks reduce the need for laboratory analysis?

In many cases, yes. Foodworks calculates nutritional values from your recipe formulations and ingredient data, which can reduce or eliminate the need for expensive lab analysis. Some manufacturers still use lab analysis for final verification on specific products, but the software handles the routine analytical work.

    • Can I use my own supplier data instead of a generic database?

Yes. The primary workflow in Foodworks Nutrition Labelling is built around raw materials created from your suppliers’ specification sheets. You declare allergens, flag contamination risks, and name ingredients exactly as they should appear on the label. This means your labels trace back to your actual supply chain, not a generic food composition table.

    • Does Foodworks handle the new allergen labelling requirements?

Yes. Foodworks supports the current Plain English Allergen Labelling (PEAL) requirements, including the individually regulated tree nuts and mollusc/crustacea declarations. Allergen data is managed at the raw material level, so declarations are built from your actual ingredient data.

    • Does Foodworks comply with current FSANZ requirements?

Yes. Foodworks Nutrition Labelling was built from the ground up with the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code as its sole focus. Nutrition Information Panels, Health Star Ratings, Plain English Allergen Labelling, Country of Origin Labelling, and ingredient statements are all generated to current regulatory requirements. When the Code changes, the software is updated to reflect it.
